Interactions with law enforcement

The “Interactions with Law Enforcement” measure asks students about their experience with police arrests, police questioning, court appearances, legal detainment, likelihood of being punished for illegal behavior, and the type of punishment for illegal behavior.

Sample items:
“What were you doing that led the police to arrest you?”
“Suppose you were given a ticket/arrested for exceeding the speed limit by 10 to 20 miles per hour. What would be the most likely punishment that would result from that ticket/arrest?”
