The National Survey of Parents and Youth is a survey conducted to evaluate the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. The survey measures drug-related attitudes and beliefs in children and parents.

Substance Use

The “Substance Use” Measure prompts participants to report their current drug use, drug use during the past 30 days, drug use during the past 12 months, and age at which they first tried various drugs. It also prompts them to report how many of their friends use drugs, and how often they use drugs.

This measure is from the Health Behavior in School-Aged Children survey, which assesses participants’ attitudes and experiences on a wide range of health-related behaviors and lifestyle choices.

The “Deviance and Victimization” measure asks students about their delinquent behaviors, driving violations and accidents, as well as their victimization experiences.

This measure is from the Monitoring the Future survey, which assesses the behaviors, attitudes, and values of adolescents and young adults. Results are used to monitor trends in substance use and abuse among adolescents and young adults.
