Expected drug experience-teen

The National Survey of Parents and Youth is a survey conducted to evaluate the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. The survey measures drug-related attitudes and beliefs in children and parents.

The “Expected Drug Experience” measure asks students to predict their future drug use, and to report the good and bad things that can happen when using drugs.

The Teen “Drug Experience” asks students to report past and current drug use. They also report their attitudes toward drug use, and perception of drug use risk, and the potential consequences and benefits of drug use.

The Child “Expected Drug Experience” measure asks students to report their attitudes about marijuana and inhalants, as well as to predict future use and consequences of using marijuana and inhalants.

Drug Use

The “Drugs and Alcohol Measure” prompt students to report their first use, past 30-day use, and past-year use of drugs. Students are also asked to report the reasons for using some drugs (e.g. steroids).

This measure is from the Monitoring the Future survey, which assesses the behaviors, attitudes, and values of adolescents and young adults. Results are used to monitor trends in substance use and abuse among adolescents and young adults.

The “Attitudes Toward Deviance” measure asks students to report their feelings about delinquent acts.

Favorable attitudes toward AOTD use

The “Favorable Attitudes toward AOTD Use” measure prompts participants to report their beliefs about alcohol and other drug use.

This measure is from the Communities That Care® Youth Survey, which assesses the incidence and prevalence of substance use, delinquency, and related problem behaviors. It also measures the risk and protective factors that predict substance use, delinquency, and problem behaviors in communities.
