MyStudentBody.com is an online, subscription-based program that provides motivational feedback and wellness education about alcohol use and abuse as well as related issues. The program targets 18- to 24-year-old college students and can be implemented as a Web-based health resource or an educational course. The program’s content highlights the student’s personal risk factors and provides the student with articles, strategies, and interactive tools related to alcohol and drinking on campus, as well as health resources available at his or her specific institution. The program also includes an educational course for use by at-risk populations. The overall goal is to reduce binge drinking and alcohol-related problem behaviors.

Moderation Management

Moderation Management is a complementary online intervention designed for nondependent, heavy-drinking adults who want to reduce the number of days on which they drink, their peak alcohol use on days they drink, and their alcohol-related problems. ModerateDrinking.com (MD) is a Web-based behavioral self-control skills training program, and Moderation Management (MM) is an online support group network. MM offers online and face-to-face mutual support meetings, a listserv, and an online forum connect concerned drinkers trying to make positive lifestyle changes. The overall goals are alcohol abstinence and a decrease in alcohol-related problems and peak alcohol use on drinking days.

Team Awareness

Team Awareness is a workplace-based prevention training program that addresses behavioral risks associated with substance abuse among employees, their coworkers, and, indirectly, their families. The interactive training focuses on six components: the importance of substance abuse prevention; team ownership of policy, stress and coping styles, tolerance and how it can become a risk factor for groups; the importance of appropriate help-seeking and help-giving behavior; and access to resources for preventive counseling or treatment. The overall goal is to improve group climate, understanding of substance use policies, and help-seeking attitudes and behaviors, while reducing alcohol and drug use attitudes, use, and related problems.

Stay on Track

Stay on Track is a school-based substance abuse prevention curriculum conducted over a 3-year period with students in grades 6 through 8. Stay on Track provides youth at each grade level with 12 45- to 50-minute lessons taught by classroom teachers. Motorsports is a motivational theme, with each lesson relating program objectives to professional racing activities and personalities. Special emphasis is given to tobacco, alcohol, club drugs, hallucinogens, prescription drugs, marijuana, and inhalants. The overall goal is to increase knowledge about substance use, increase personal competence skills and self-esteem, and change attitudes and intentions related to substance use.

Protecting You/Protecting Me

Protecting You/Protecting Me (PY/PM) is a 5-year classroom-based alcohol use prevention and vehicle safety program for elementary school students in grades 1-5 (ages 6-11) and high school students in grades 11 and 12. PY/PM consists of a series of 40 science- and health-based lessons, with 8 lessons per year for grades 1-5. Lessons focus on brain development, vehicle safety, and life skills. Parent take-home activities are offered for all 40 lessons. High school students can train to deliver the curriculum to elementary school students, and learn specific content about how alcohol use impacts adolescents. The overall goals are to reduce alcohol-related injuries and death among children and youth due to underage alcohol use and riding in vehicles with drivers who are not alcohol free.

Project SUCCESS

Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students) is designed to prevent and reduce substance use among students 12 to 18 years of age. The four-part program includes education about substance use and consequences, school-wide activities to change social norms about substance use, a parent education component, and individual and group counseling for students and parents.
