MyStudentBody.com is an online, subscription-based program that provides motivational feedback and wellness education about alcohol use and abuse as well as related issues. The program targets 18- to 24-year-old college students and can be implemented as a Web-based health resource or an educational course. The program’s content highlights the student’s personal risk factors and provides the student with articles, strategies, and interactive tools related to alcohol and drinking on campus, as well as health resources available at his or her specific institution. The program also includes an educational course for use by at-risk populations. The overall goal is to reduce binge drinking and alcohol-related problem behaviors.
Team Awareness
Team Awareness is a workplace-based prevention training program that addresses behavioral risks associated with substance abuse among employees, their coworkers, and, indirectly, their families. The interactive training focuses on six components: the importance of substance abuse prevention; team ownership of policy, stress and coping styles, tolerance and how it can become a risk factor for groups; the importance of appropriate help-seeking and help-giving behavior; and access to resources for preventive counseling or treatment. The overall goal is to improve group climate, understanding of substance use policies, and help-seeking attitudes and behaviors, while reducing alcohol and drug use attitudes, use, and related problems.
Project Venture
Project Venture is an outdoor experiential prevention program designed primarily for 5th- to 8th-grade American Indian youth. The program is designed to foster the development of positive self-concept, effective social interaction skills, a community service ethic, an internal locus of control, and improved decision-making and problem-solving skills. Students participate in classroom-based activities, experiential activities such as camping and hiking, adventure camps and wilderness treks, and community service learning. The overall goal is to develop the social and emotional competence that facilitates youths’ resistance to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
Chestnut Health Systems – Bloomington Adolescent Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Model
Chestnut Health Systems- Bloomington Adolescent Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Model is a therapeutic intervention designed for youth ages 12 to 18 who meet the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s criteria for Level I or Level II treatment placement. Treatment includes a 14-week skill-building group, weekly group counseling sessions, and an individualized treatment plan. The overall goal is behavioral and emotional change that leads to abstinence from alcohol and drugs.
Building Assets – Reducing Risks (BARR)
Building Assets—Reducing Risks (BARR) is a school-based prevention program for 9th-grade youth. Teachers lead a series of 33, 30-minute group activities that aim to build social competency, increase student engagement, and prevent substance use. The program is bolstered by strengths-based support interventions for high-risk youth and parent involvement. The overall goal is to decrease the incidence of substance use, academic failure, truancy, and disciplinary incidents among 9th-grade youth.
